The Challenge
Every year, millions of Muslims travel to Makkah and Madinah for Umrah. Many travel as families, and many book a package through a travel agent.
Umrah packages are hard to compare. Two quotes for the same dates can differ in hotel distance, room sharing, transport and what is actually included. Important details are often missing from the quote.
Travellers face the same questions again and again:
- Should we book a package or book each part ourselves?
- Which hotel area suits our family, in Makkah and in Madinah?
- Do we need a double, triple or quad room?
- Walking distance or shuttle hotel?
- Train or private transfer between Makkah and Madinah?
- Which costs are not in the advertised price?
Most information online comes from sellers. A family that wants a neutral answer has few places to look.
Our Role
LucidReactor Labs planned, designed and built Umrah Wayfinder. Our work covered:
- Positioning and content strategy for an independent planning site
- Nine guides that follow the order of a family’s decisions
- UX and build of three planning tools: a quote checker, a trip planner and a budget worksheet
- SEO structure that links each guide to the tool that helps with that decision
- A consent-first approach to analytics
What We Built
Independent by design
We made one decision first: Umrah Wayfinder takes no bookings and no payments.
This choice shapes everything else. The site has nothing to sell, so its guides can be honest about trade-offs. It can tell a family that a cheaper hotel with a shuttle is a fair choice, or that a quote leaves out important details.
The site also states its limits clearly. It gives independent planning information. It does not give religious, visa, medical or financial advice.
Quote checker
A traveller can check one quote for missing promises, or compare up to three offers on the same terms. This turns three different sales documents into one fair comparison.
Trip planner
A short three-step flow asks who is travelling and what matters most. It collects dates, room needs and transport choices in one place. The traveller can then download the plan and share it with any travel agent or Umrah company. The agent gets a clear brief, and the family gets quotes that match its real needs.
Budget worksheet
A worksheet helps families plan the cost of the whole trip.
Guides
The nine guides follow the order of the decisions a family makes:
- The big decisions: package or self-booking, choosing a hotel area in Makkah and Madinah, and comparing quotes.
- Before you book: reading a package quote, choosing family room sizes, costs beyond the advertised price, walking-distance or shuttle hotels, travelling with older parents, and train or private transfer between the two cities.
Privacy
The site needs no account. Analytics cookies run only if the visitor accepts them. The consent banner states the rule in plain words: no ads, no profiling, nothing sold.
The Result
Umrah Wayfinder is live as a free planning site:
- 9 guides covering the main decisions before booking
- 3 planning tools: quote checker, trip planner and budget worksheet
- Up to 3 quotes compared on the same terms
- 0 accounts, bookings or payments required
A family can now arrive at a travel agent with a clear plan and a fair comparison of offers.
Key Takeaways
Pick one decision and make it clearer. The site focuses on the choices a family makes before it books.
Remove the conflict of interest. No bookings and no payments let the content stay neutral, and that neutrality is the product.
Hand off well. The trip planner does not replace the agent. It gives the traveller a clear plan to take to one.
